Power of colour

Have you ever thought about why we like certain colours and dislike others? Colour preferences seem to lack any rational basis, yet the powerful influence of colour rules our choices in everything - from the food we eat and the clothes we wear to the way we decorate our homes. Some people say that colours reflect our personality. According to others, we choose colours that represent something we lack or need (e.g. blue if we want to relax or red if we need more energy). There are no proofs for that, though. According to a study of American scientists, we prefer a particular colour because we associate it with a positive experience we had in the past. If we increasingly experience pleasure in something we bought in a particular color, we will tend to chose similar objects in the future with the same colour.  This leads to a self-perpetuating situation. I can see that pattern in life. I prefer strong colours and it's reflected not only in what I wear but also in how my house is decorated (white walls but decoration in deep colours) and even in what I eat (the more colourful my dish is, the better). As my experience with bold colours is positive, I tend to buy objects and clothes in the same colours. Have you noticed the same pattern in your lives? What colours do you prefer?

Jakie kolory lubicie najbardziej?

Something to talk about

It took me a long time to write here about the criticism. Actually, this topic has been in my mind since the beginning of my adventure with blogging. By posting anything on the Internet, especially by posting our pictures, we are subject to the assessment of others. And that's what it's all about, right? Expressing one's opinion is (or at least should be) what commenting option is for. So, if we allow commenting, we should be prepared that not all of them will be positive. So why very often critical opinions are accepted with indignation or anger? Sometimes with superiority ("That's my style, I'm not going to change anything about it"). On one hand, the internet is full of trolling comments written by rude and boorish people who give vent to their negative emotions. Anonymity gives some sense of impunity, but on the other hand, do you have to blog or be logged in somewhere to have a right to express your opinion? Or sign it with your full name? After all, how much to reveal about yourself on the internet is entirely up to you. I can't help but wonder why even the most constructive and "advisory" criticism is becoming a synonym of rudeness and frustration? How often we don't express our opinions openly because we are afraid to offend someone or we don't want to be accused of various "low" feelings such as jealousy.Or maybe we don't write the whole truth, because we are afraid of crude, but still fair assessment of our person? What do you think about criticising and receiving criticism?

Zastanawia mnie dlaczego nawet najbardziej konstruktywna i "doradcza" krytyka zostaje wrzucona do jednego worka z chamstwem i frustracją?

New prefix

The change of prefix from 2 to 3. So I´ll never again be twentysomething. How is it? Almost the same, but not exactly. For example, you´re telling some story about how it was when you were a student and suddenly you realise that you are talking about something that happened 10 years ago! Or one day you get to know that interns in the company where you work were born in the 90s (yes! nine-ties!). A list of new music groups you´ve never heard of is getting bigger and bigger. The same as the number of pictures of cute babies that your friends post on Facebook. Instead of going to parties, more and more often you go to dinner parties. Or sometimes you only meet your friends for lunch. All of you have to wake up early the following day, right? If you were born in the late 80s or in 90s you probably have no clue what I´m talking about here. But don´t worry, one day you will ;)

O a veces sólo vas a almuerzar.

Ale spokojnie, Was też to czeka ;)

Stuffocation

Moving partly, and temporarily, from Barcelona to London I took with me only a part of my garments. I must say that I am happy with the emptier wardrobe. During the moving I arrived at a conclusion that I have too much stuff. Few days ago I read an article saying that I am not alone. "There are millions of people right now, all around the world, feeling like they have too much stuff", says the trend analyst James Wallman whose book "Stuffocation" will be out in November. Speaking about "stuff" Wallman does not mean only garments, but all the "clutter". Unused sports equipment, unwanted Christmas presents, candle holders, frames etc. All the junk that we want to clear out and breath again. More does not mean better anymore. On the other hand, minimalistic approach seems very drastic. The point is not to buy anything, throw away or give away everything we do not wear and stick to basics, right?  "Unstuffing" is more about owning beautiful and good quality things, that tell something about us. Who wants to have a wardrobe full of polyester and fast-changing "trendy" garments anyway? We want to tell a story. We rather measure our life by experiences than physical things. That's why more and more people prefer to spend money on travelling. Or to someone "who has everything" we give as a present an experience: a concert ticket or a skydiving course. What is your opinion?

I przeżycia. "Stuffocation".

When you say nothing at all

My excuse for today's lack of text is the heat (Yeah, I should have found a better one, right? Can you expect anything else in Barcelona in July than high temperatures?!).

It's about the journey

What was your favourite book when you were children? Mine, without any doubt, was "The Children of Noisy Village". The first book that I read on my own and after that I was getting back to it so many times that my parents became worried that I would never read any other book again. They had to hide it in a place that was out of my reach-on the wardrobe:)
Now I read the most when I commute to work. My everyday journey becomes a trip in time and space. One day I am dancing mambo in Lima of the 50s and the next day I am wandering lonely around Tokyo. I lose myself in New York of roaring 20s, to move from there to the 19th century St. Petersburg obssesed with money and power. In sleepy town of Macondo I spend my time with Buendia family.
I go to many places and in some of them I stay for long, impressed by their local colour and their fascinating inhabitants.
As you know, I love huge bags. You may ask why. Because I can put there my "must have"-a thick book.

Porque allí cabe mi "must have"-un libro grueso.

Teraz najwięcej czytam w drodze do pracy i z powrotem. Moja podróż staje się wędrówką w czasie i przestrzeni. Jednego dnia tańczę mambo w Limie lat 50, a kolejnego przemierzam samotnie ulice Tokio. Zapytacie: dlaczego? Bo mieści się w nich mój "must have" - gruba książka.

Midi

Today one of these outfits where I show you garments that I "lost and found" in my wardrobe. This dress has already 7 years and I must admit that I do not wear it a lot. Midi lenght is a bit tricky and we should be careful not to get a certain "granny" look:) Do you sometimes wear midi dresses or skirts?

Dzisiaj zestaw z serii: znalezione we własnej szafie.
